Communities for Children is an initiative from the Stronger Families and Community Strategy funded by FaHCSIA.

The priority areas are:

• healthy young families
• supporting families and parents
• early learning and care
• child friendly communities and
• families and children's services work as a network

This vision of the initiative is that Mount Isa community is a place where all children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Activities include two playgroups in the parks per week, developing a culture of education for Aboriginal children and parents and encouraging a community welcoming of all children through a community development approach.  The program engages in numerous community education programs in Mount Isa.
